My Holidays - 2012

{snowflakes / fur hoods / forever 21 floral scarves}

Hellooooo! I just wanted to say happy holidays to all of my lovely readers and visitors on the blog today, whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or no special holiday at all.. just cherish this time you have and spend it with lovely family and friends, and catch up on the good things and memories through 2012. My siblings and I played a long game of Cranium for the first time and it was so much fun. I see them at home multiple times a day, but we never actually take the time to sit down and do something fun together. That's what I like about this time of the year - it's all about the togetherness with loved ones. Enjoy this time while it lasts :)

{my living room decorated for the season}

{snowy roads & three birds on a berry bush outside of my front window}

{table decorations / traditional Christmas Polish foods - lots of fish and borscht}

{a Polish tradition - my siblings and mom breaking oplatek with each other. it's basically a blessed wafer that we receive from family members in Poland, and it is shared with other family members while exchanging best wishes between each other}

{festive banister decorations - red/green/gold!}

{girls night out with my beautiful friends! i'm on the far right}

Now for some presents! We'll start with the mocha and moccasins...

{when in doubt - give starbuck's giftcards! i'll take 'em all!}

{aerie polka dot moccasin inspired slippers - so comfy!}

{nail polish from my sister and the Cake lotion I bought for my sister}

{'Skyfall' by OPI and 'repstyle' by Essie}

{holiday baking ft. chocolate dusted meringues, pink peppermint meringue and vanilla meringues - recipe coming soon! my family devoured these. I found three other holiday recipes on my blog - candy cane shortbread from this year, and last year's candy cane peppermint bark and sugar cookies}

Let's Be Real...

Let's be real... I'm obsessed with my necklace from Brandy Melville, although I wish it was a House of Harlow necklace. I don't know why I have a hula hoop under my bed. And, let's be real... I had to crop out half of the photo because no one really wants to see my messy bedroom.

Let's be real... I've become obsessed with glitter nail polish! I've been slowly pulling together my New Year's Eve look and today I was on the hunt for the perfect New Year's Eve nail polish look. Nothing in my collection caught my eye, so I went over to my sister's polished and picked these two! I rarely wear black, but the gold I am most certainly a fan of. Black and gold are to New Year's Eve as red and green are to Christmas! [picture from my instagram]

Let's be real... I've consumed an unthinkable amount of peppermint shortbread, and the only thing I want to consume this weekend is this salad with quinoa, sweet potato and apples - a delicious flavor combination. Then, perhaps make these cinnamon roll pancakes on Christmas morning. It's all about balance, right?

Let's be real... I read this list of '50 things to stop doing forever' and I'm convinced that I need to stop doing 49/50 of the things on the list. Where to begin...

Let's be real... I might seem your grandmother because I've decided to start a knitting project, but I will be wearing one kick ass, warm and cozy scarf when I'm all done! Check out those burgundy and plum shades in the yarn. Gorgeous!

Let's be real... I need to smile more. Life is great, and there are so many things to be happy and grateful about! If you need something to smile about, please check out this list. Two words: auto and correct.

Let's be real... I feel like that sounds like an annoying phrase to constantly say, but let's be real... it catches on quick! So, what's real to you right now?

Candy Cane Chocolate Shortbread

Can you believe Christmas is almost one week away? I certainly cannot, but I'm here today to share a Christmas recipe with you! There are many reasons to get excited during the month of December, and baking tops my list. Every year I plan out certain recipes that I want to try - some are the same, traditional recipes every year (shortbread, gingerbread, sugar cookies), and some are new recipes I'd like to test. The first holiday recipe I made this year was shortbread! I used a Pioneer Woman recipe, but I made these cookies extra festive by dipping them in melted chocolate and sprinkling them with crushed candy canes, inspired from a Cupcakes and Cashmere recipe

ingredients: softened butter + sugar + vanilla bean sugar + flour + corn starch

Here comes the fun part! I melted the chocolate in 30 second intervals in the microwave to prevent the semi-sweet chocolate chips from seizing.  Once the cookies cooled, I spread the chocolate on one side. Then, the cookies were laid flat on parchment paper and sprinkled with candy cane crumbs and dust.

Shortbread is great for those who are not HUGE sugar fans. They're a pretty plain type of cookie, but if a lot of butter is used, they taste rich and melt-in-your-mouth goooood.

Q: What are your favorite holiday treats? I'm a huge fan of shortbread and caramel chocolate!

[Please forgive the poor quality of my photo's in this post. I tried out a new editor that I don't like, and the photographs were taken during the night time. Natural lighting is always the best to work with]

Dear Santa...

Oh yes, it's the time of the year again to make my holiday wish list! I've seen many other blogger's wish lists, and I knew that I had to put together my own eventually, so why not right now, as I sip on my hot rooibos chai tea, and watch Carly rose own it on The X-Factor [am I right]? This year's list is very similar to the list I made last year:

TV - I definitely consider myself a TV addict, but I'd love to have somewhere to watch TV alone, rather than a busy living room or in my mother's bedroom at home. My room is a comfortable place, but the only thing missing is a television.

Christmas Sweater/PJ's - Who doesn't love a cozy Christmas sweater, or a new pair of pajamas with holiday print? It's basically a holiday tradition.

Vega Protein Powder - Ever since my matcha whey protein powder ran out, I've been dying to get my hands on a new kind, but I can't justify spending that much money on protein powder. I've never tried Vega brand powders, but I'd love to try this one out since it's a vegan brand.

Starbucks Giftcard - to feed my unhealthy addiction, why else?

Essie Nail Polish - they have such a pretty color range!

Flowerbomb Perfume by Viktor & Rolf - Since my Marc Jacobs Daisy perfume ran out, I've been on the hunt for a new one. Out of all the perfumes at Sephora, this one is currently my favorite and the packaging is beautiful. Sephora's website says the notes include: Sambac Jasmine, Centifolia Rose, Cattleya Orchid, Ballerina Freesia, Patchoili.

'Joy The Baker' Cookbook - Joy is a genius in the kitchen, and her new cookbook is one that I've been dying to get my hands on! If you have never visited her blog, just take a peak at her recent Cranberry Orange & Pecan Coffee Cake. This is one of the recipes I'd love to try this month.

Q: What are you wishing for this holiday season?
